The Christian Faith Church is an assembly of believers located in Winkler, Manitoba and is part of the Chortitzer Mennonite Conference.
Our Mission
- To provide a safe place for believers to fellowship and worship God.
- To spread the Gospel in church, at the workplace, and in casual contact with others.
- To equip the saints for any ministry that God may ask them to perform.
The Christian Faith Church came about as a joint venture between the CMC Executive and Board of Missions. The first meetings concerning a church plantwere held in spring of 2004. Two cellgroups were created, one in Steinbach and one in Winkler, to pray over the new church plant vision.
Over the next two years, prayer continued. By spring of 2006, it was evident that Godwas directing the CMC to the Winkler/Morden/Altona/Roland area. After the endorsement of the Conference Ministerial, the Board of Missions, and the brethren of the Zion Mennonite Church (located in the neighbouring community of Schanzenfeld), Winkler was chosen as the site of the church plant.
The new Christian Faith Church held its inaugural worship service in August of 2007 at the J.R. Walkof School in Winkler. The church has already outgrown the school and moved its services to 324 South Railway Avenue. Services continue to be held there each Sunday at 10:45 a.m. Sunday School and weekday Bible studues are also held each week.
Church Leadership
The Christian Faith Church is led by Pastor Cornie and Mary Martens. Working together with them are Cornie and Margaret Penner, who have joined on as deacon couple.
Cornie and Mary Martens have served as a pastor couple in a few CMC churches over the past 30 years. After retiring from active service in 2005, Cornie continued to serve as the Executive Secretary of the Board of Missions (and still does). In 2007, Cornie and Mary were approached and after much prayer and consultation with family and friends, they felt God leading them back to active ministry, this time in Winkler.
Cornie and Margaret Penner previously served as a deacon couple at the Zion Mennonite Church, located just south of Winkler. Cornie has also served on the Missions Board, most recently as chairman. After feeling God directing them to the new church plant, Cornie and Margaret received the blessing from the the brethren of the Zion church to move on and accept the deacon role at the new CMC church.
